BIRD PROTECTION

Overhead line insulation up to 72 kV

The growing demand for electricity requires an increase in the number of power lines and power lines installed in the natural environment which, until now, due to the lack of specific regulations, lacked the necessary elements and regulations to carry out protective measures to ensure and guarantee the welfare of birds against possible risks of electrocution or collision of these in these infrastructures, and especially for endangered species of extinction.

At Corporative International RH we have always been aware of these dangers to birds, which is why we have created a firm commitment to avifauna. For years we have carried out constant R+D+i work, in collaboration with the main suppliers of raw materials, in order to develop the best solutions for each of the multiple risk situations for birds.

Protecting overhead lines, their support structures, as well as the mechanical and functional elements that form part of the complex web of electricity transmission and distribution has become a great challenge for us in defence of one of our most precious assets: nature. In addition, by protecting our overhead lines, we prevent countless breakdowns and complications that cause considerable economic damage to both electricity companies and users.

At the present time, RH has worked together with the electricity companies, advised by AENOR, to develop the PEA 0058:20YYY anti-electrocution protection linings for birds on overhead distribution power lines, to address the conservation problem for emblematic species such as: Iberian imperial eagle, Bonelli’s eagle, Bonelli’s eagle and other large birds of prey… and protect them from electrocution and collision in electrical conduction structures, causing at the same time anomalies, cuts and irregularities in electrical distribution. Therefore, with this regulation we intend to adopt as many electro-technical measures as possible to avoid, or at least reduce, bird accidents.
